Sumar opened an investigation after accusations of sexist behavior by Errejón

The letter with which Íñigo Errejón leaves politics: "I have been working on a psychological support process for some time."

Sumar opened a process to collect information when it became aware of anonymous complaints on social networks that speak of sexist behavior and psychological abuse and that the coalition attributes to íñigo Errejón. “Following the information that appeared this week, at Sumar we began a process to gather information about the statements that had been made, mainly on social networks, about Iñigo Errejón,” reads a statement from Movimiento Sumar.

The until now spokesperson for the parliamentary group and member of the Movimento Sumar Executive has presented his resignation after strong internal pressure for him to step aside. The movement occurs after a series of comments were published on social networks that spoke of the “psychological abuse” of a political leader and that those around Sumar associate with Errejón. The party opened an investigation when it learned of these complaints a few days ago, and the process ended this Thursday with the resignation of the until now deputy.

“This morning, Iñigo Errejón sent the Sumar executive the statement that he had just made public, presenting his irrevocable resignation as a member of the executive, deputy and spokesperson for the Plurinational Parliamentary Group of Sumar. The executive of Movimiento Sumar has met immediately and, after having listened to the reasons given by Íñigo Errejón, has unanimously accepted his resignation,” the statement says.

Errejón presented his resignation this Thursday with a statement in which he does not refer to the complaints, but recognizes a “toxic subjectivity” related to patriarchy, as well as a “way of behaving that is often emancipated from care, from empathy and the needs of others.” “This generates a toxic subjectivity that in the case of men, patriarchy multiplies, with co-workers, with organizational colleagues, with emotional relationships and even with oneself,” he explains.

“At Sumar we aspire to build a feminist society and politics and that requires a firm commitment in all areas,” concludes the note that Sumar sent after Errejón’s resignation.
