Madrid 13 (Europa Press) –
The Government of Sudan has suspended all imports of products from Kenya “until new notice” in retaliation for having hosted in Nairobi a meeting of the rapid support forces (RSF) with the objective of promoting creation a parallel government.
The Minister of Commerce, Ahmed Mohamed Ali, has ordered to suspend the import of all products from Kenya “through all ports, airports and exits,” according to a circular dated March 11 and collected by the Suna agency.
The Government argues in this document that Kenia “has welcomed the militia and its allies”, while “has also sponsored its activities.” The measure thus responds to an attempt to “preserve the interests” of the country and “reaffirm the sovereignty” of Sudan.
Nairobi said that hosting the act was “compatible” with his role in peace negotiations. “When Kenya offers this space, they have no further reason, but that we believe that there is no military solution to political disputes,” he said.
For its part, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry criticized Nairobi’s “contempt for its” obligations under international law “and stressed that” this action promotes the dismemberment of an African state, violates its sovereignty and interferes in its internal affairs. “
The United Nations has already stated that the plan to establish a parallel government “could worsen even more” the Sudanese conflict, since “the country’s fragmentation would increase.” We are very concerned about any additional escalation of the Sudanese conflict, “said the spokesman of the UN General Secretariat, Stéphane Dujarric.
The Civil War broke out in April 2023 in the African country because of the strong discrepancies around the process of integration of the paramilitary group within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the derailment of the open transition after the overthrow in 2019 of the Omar Hasan Al Bashir regime.
