Sudanese authorities ask the international community to condemn the role of both countries in the conflict with the paramilitaries
Dec. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Sudanese authorities have accused this Monday the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of launching drones supplied by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) against military positions from the territory of Chad, a fact that they have described as “a dangerous event” and “another “turn” in the context of the war unleashed in April 2023.
The Government spokesperson and Minister of Culture and Information, Khaled al Aiser, has indicated in a press conference from the city of Port Sudan, current headquarters of the Executive, that Khartoum has “conclusive evidence” against the UAE regarding the delivery of weapons and financing the paramilitaries, an accusation that has been made on several occasions in recent months.
Thus, he has highlighted that among the weapons delivered to the RSF, now declared a terrorist organization, there are guided missiles and drones, while he has attacked the UAE and Chad for their role in supporting the paramilitaries, as reported by the state agency. Sudanese news outlet, SUNA.
“We have evidence that the UAE is delivering these weapons to the militia,” said Al Aiser, who stressed that the Sudanese Army can respond in any way it deems appropriate, before asking the international community to condemn these events and the role of these countries in the conflict.
In this sense, the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ali Yusef, has said that the Emirati authorities have a “direct” responsibility in supporting the RSF and has reiterated that Chad is “facilitating” the delivery of weapons and giving safe corridors to the paramilitaries. to launch their attacks on Sudanese territory.
Yusef has explained that the investigations carried out by the Sudanese authorities allow us to conclude that the drones are assembled in the UAE and subsequently launched from Chadian territory, specifically from points located near the border with Sudan.
United Nations experts in charge of supervising the application of the arms embargo in the Sudanese region of Darfur (west) already pointed out last year that there were “credible” accusations about the UAE’s military support to the RSF through the territory of Chad, something firmly denied by both countries.
On the other hand, the Minister of Defense of Sudan, Yasin Ibrahim Yasin, has announced the liberation of the Um al Qura area, located in the state of Gezira, south of Khartoum, after an offensive against the RSF, attacks that have also allowed regain control of a sugar factory in the adjacent state of Sennar.
The press conference took place after the RSF declared over the weekend the creation of a parallel government in Khartoum, the scene for weeks of a large-scale offensive by the Sudanese Army to try to expel from the capital and the adjacent Khartoum North and Omdurman to the paramilitaries.
The RSF declared Abdulatif Abdullah al Amin al Hasan as “prime minister” of this so-called “civil administration”, which is accompanied by a “legislative council” made up of 90 members and headed by Nail Babiker Nail al Mak Naser, specifically oriented towards development. of “security, public services and the arrival of humanitarian aid.”
Sudan is mired in a civil war following hostilities that broke out in April 2023 within the framework of increased tensions over the integration of the RSF within the Armed Forces, a key part of a signed agreement in December 2022 to form a new civilian government and reactivate the open transition after the 2019 overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir, damaged by the October 2021 coup, in the that the then transition minister, Abdullah Hamdok, was overthrown.
