Background

The virtual event “Strengthening evaluation and monitoring systems for the consolidation of open and transparent planning” is organized by the Latin American Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES), of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). , within the framework of Evaluation Week (Glocal 2024), whose theme this year is “evaluation and transformational change: balancing ambition and realism.”

The event seeks to promote a discussion regarding how the open government approach allows improving evaluation and monitoring processes, while contributing to generating a greater impact of state action, providing evidence and facilitating the sustainability of learning and continuous improvement, as well as feedback and accountability, in the face of an increasingly informed and demanding citizenry.

It also seeks to discuss how evaluation methodologies with an open government approach make it possible to address the persistent gaps in Latin America and the Caribbean and the emerging challenges that threaten the well-being of future generations, such as climate change, the destruction of ecosystems, poverty, inequality, insecurity and violence, with a comprehensive view.
