Steve-O canceled breast implant surgery after talking to a transgender stranger

Steve-O changed his mind about getting temporary breast implants after talking to a transgender person.

The 50-year-old “Jackass” alum explained in An interview with Consequence On Thursday I was going to get A breast operation for hidden camera pranks on your next Super Dumb Tourwhere he tricked groups of men on the street into believing he was a woman.

“On the day I was supposed to have the surgery, I was standing at the checkout at the grocery store and the person ringing up my purchase was obviously transgender, and I thought it was a sign from the universe,” she said.

“So I asked the transgender person if I could comment on something,” Steve-O continued, “and I had a conversation with this person that had a profound impact on me.”

Steve-O said his “motivation” for the planned skits was not “to hurt anyone,” though he acknowledged that people’s response “would likely have been mixed.”

“I didn’t have any special meetings or conversations with trans people, because I didn’t feel like I needed to,” she explained. “But I felt like the universe had put this encounter in front of me, and ultimately I decided that the universe had intervened.”

Steve-O explained his plans to the trans person, who in turn told the famous comedian about the “oppression” they have faced.

“[They] “They described not being allowed to use the bathroom at their workplace, that there were like 28 states in the country that were arresting them for having identification that said they were women. That there were politicians making concerted efforts to lock them up in internment camps. It was really quite heartbreaking, the level of oppression that was described,” Steve-O said.

“Framed like that, I thought about it in a way I hadn’t before, like, wow, maybe it’s not all fun and games,” she added. “Especially the jokes. For example, I would have considered that it would be better to film if I had been beaten up at the motorcycle rally. And having that mindset was a big mistake, because ultimately it would be an exercise in celebrating violence against trans people. At least that’s how some people would interpret it, and when they put it to me like that, I thought, wow, maybe I was wrong about that.”

Steve-O said he doesn’t regret backing out of the surgery, but he does regret publicly announcing his plans for the maneuver.

“It was hard for me,” he said. “Looking back, I’m very grateful that it didn’t happen. I’m very glad I didn’t do it. But that didn’t make it any easier, because I was very vocal about my plans to do it, and I’ve never been the kind of artist who says I’m going to do something and then doesn’t do it. That’s what got me into trouble, not keeping my word.”

Steve-O added: “I think it’s a very valuable trait to be able to admit when you’re wrong.”

He said he was “particularly in love” with the idea at the time “because I think the opportunity for comedy is absolutely there.”
