George Lucas denies lack of diversity in Star Wars

Thanks to a report from Varietywe know that George Lucas attended the Cannes Film Festival to receive the prestigious Palme d’Or award. Before accepting it, he talked a little about the films of Star Wars and touched on the topic of the supposed lack of diversity at the beginning of the saga.

He recalled some of the criticism that criticized the first films for supposedly having characters played only by white men. He disapproved of this stance and made it clear that the franchise has always been diverse in some way or another.

“Most people are aliens! The idea is that you have to accept people for who they are, whether they’re big and hairy or green or whatever. The idea is that all people are equal,” said Lucas.

He recalled that the saga has had actors such as Billy Dee Williams already Samuel Jackson, who played Lando Calrissian and Mace Windu. Furthermore, he stated that the only beings that have been discriminated against in the saga are robots.

She is the one who supports this young boy who knows nothing and this boisterous, know-it-all guy who can’t do anything and tries to save the Rebellion with these clowns… And the same thing happens with Queen Amidala,” Lucas concluded.
