MADRID Jan. 4 () –
Pulkovo International Airport in Saint Petersburg had to suspend takeoffs and landings for more than two hours this Saturday morning due to the proximity of Ukrainian attack drones.
The airport, located more than 800 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, has suspended its activity from 7:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., as reported by the Federal Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation (Rosaviatsia) on its Telegram page.
“Temporary restrictions have been applied to ensure the safety of civil flights. During the period of restrictions, 20 flights heading to Pulkovo have been diverted to alternative destinations,” explained a spokesperson for Rosaviatsia, Artiom Korenyako, in a statement.
Last night, Russian air defenses shot down a record number of four drones in the Leningrad region, its governor, Alexander Drozdenk, revealed. Twelve other drones have been shot down in the Bryansk, Smolensk, Belgorod and Pskov regions.
