SRI LANKA Card. Ranjith in Tewatta for Children’s Day

Thousands met with the Archbishop of Colombo at the National Basilica of Our Lady of Lanka. The message for the boys: “Do not measure the life that God has given you by the standards that exist at a social level. For Him each one of you counts.”

Colombo () – The 75th Children’s Day of the Archdiocese of Colombo was celebrated on Saturday at the National Basilica of Our Lady of Lanka in Tewatta, led by Card. Malcolm Ranjith. The meeting – centered on the theme “Children, you are a gift from the Lord” – brought together thousands of children who showed their talents in activities carried out in different languages: Sinhalese, Tamil and English.

“Do not measure the life that God has given you by the standards that exist in society,” Card. Ranjith to the boys. “God creates each child with a special purpose and goal and prepares them for it from infancy. We are all equal in God’s love, but each with their own vocation. The more open we are to this particular path, the more we will allow may God fulfill his dream in our lives”.

“You should never look at your friend and underestimate yourself because you can’t do anything,” the Archbishop of Colombo further emphasized. “Never think that your life doesn’t count.” And in this sense, the cardinal presented the boys with the figures of some very young saints: from Saint Tarcisius, who believed in the fulfillment of God’s will to face martyrdom, to Saint Dominic Savio, who lived a life built on around the Eucharist. And then Teresa of Lisieux, the little flower of Jesus, to Carlo Acutis, a young Italian of today, who was born in the nineties, and whom the Church has proclaimed blessed”.

Finally, after the blessing with the statue of Our Lady of Lanka, the day ended with the representation of the plays proposed by the students.
