May 13. (Portaltic/EP) –
square enix has outlined a new plan for the next three fiscal years with which it will reduce the number of high-definition games to focus on quality and a multiplatform strategy.
The company seeks to maximize its catalog of video games, betting on their quality at the expense of quantity, to offer “unforgettable experiences” and “ensure excitement”, as stated in its medium-term plan, established until March 31, 2027, when its fiscal year ends.
To do this, Square Enix will regularly launch titles Triple A of its main franchises and a selection of games for smart devices and PC, within an effort that seeks to reinforce internal development work.
This decision follows the consolidated results of the fiscal year 2024 of the group, which ended on March 31, in which it registered growth in net sales of high definition titles (Final Fantasy XVI, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster) , the high development cost and advertising expenses resulted in operating losses.
The multiplatform strategy, for its part, will focus on bringing the titles from its catalog to Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and PCand also to ‘smartphones’ with operating system iOS and Android and PC in games compatible with these systems.
Greater importance will also be given to digital sales, since, as they explain, “consumer game content is increasingly sold through downloads rather than physical packages.” Consequently, they detect greater growth opportunities in monetization formulas such as free gaming with integrated payments (free to play), microtransactions and subscriptions.
