Dec. 10 (Portaltic/EP) –
The Spotify platform has ended support for the electronic device for cars Car Thingwhich stopped operating globally this Monday, as the company announced a few months ago and some users have confirmed.
Car Thing devices are a hardware product designed for use in automobiles, allowing listen to Spotify content through the car’s speakers, as well as controlling the app using voice recognition, a touch screen and preset buttons.
The firm designed it with users with older cars in mind who did not have applications such as Android Auto or Apple CarPlay integrated into the system of their vehicles. However, shortly after making it available to users, Spotify announced that it was making the decision to discontinue the product, due to low demand forecasts and supply chain problems.
In May of this year, finally, the Swedish platform announced that Car Thing would leave to be officially operational as of December 9 and that it had no plans to release a replacement version of the electronic device.
Now, some Car Thing users have shared in forums such as Reddit the message that appears on the device’s screen since this Monday, stating that “it has stopped being manufactured.”
It also indicates that to “discuss refund options”, those affected by the discontinuation should contact customer service before the next January 14, 2025.
Spotify has also noted on its website that the decision to discontinue this device “was not made lightly” and that it has done so to “provide a superior listening experience” to users of the platform.
With this, it has recommended resetting its factory settings and “disposing it safely following local e-waste guidelines” for each region.
