Spotify has announced the End of support for Car Thing music streaming deviceswhich will permanently stop working as of December 9 of this year to all users.
Car Thing devices are a ‘hardware’ product designed for use in automobiles, which allows listen to Spotify content through the car speakers, as well as control the application through the voice recognition, a touch screen and buttons pre-established.
The music streaming company began testing this device in 2022, intended for users with older cars that did not have applications such as Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
However, Spotify announced that same year that it was making the decision to discontinue the product, due to low demand forecasts and supply chain problems. Despite this, Spotify put existing units on sale for around 49.35 euros and detailed that the available Car Thing devices would continue to work.
Now, the Swedish platform has announced that Car Thing will officially cease operating as of December 9, 2024, so the device will permanently stop working for all users.
As the company has explained in a statement on their support pagethe decision to discontinue this device is part of the company’s objectives of “optimize” your product offering.
Thus, although Spotify has recognized that it is “disappointing”, the platform will be able to focus on the development of new functions and improvements in order to achieve “a better experience for all Spotify users.”
With all this, Spotify recommends that users reset your Car Thing to factory settings and Please dispose of your device “following local e-waste guidelines.” Likewise, the platform has added that there are no plans to release a replacement version of this device.
