The Spanish women’s soccer team thrashed Vietnam (9-0) this Friday in the training match that served as the last test for Jorge Vilda’s men before the World Cup, which takes place from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
One week after making their debut against Costa Rica in the World Cup, the Spaniards, among whom only Alexia Putellas has not played for the Ballon d’Or, have confirmed their good form and their cohesion in a training match against the Asians – who will also be in the World Cup – at the McLennan Park Stadium in Auckland, where they have set up their base camp before the tournament.
Mai Duc Chung’s debutant Vietnam tried to stop the flow of the Spanish ball, but Vilda’s, with Cata Coll under the goalposts, struck early; in the 7th minute, Alba Redondo opened the can, and in the 12th minute Athenea del Castillo made it 2-0 with which they would reach the break.
Already in the second half, Spain uncovered the jar of essences to thrash the Vietnamese; doubles from Salma Paralluelo (min.51 and 88), Esther González (min.60 and 65) and Jenni Hermoso (min.63 and 83) and the goal from Aitana Bonmatí (min.71) left her team without options adversary.
The Spanish coach offered minutes to all his players except for Alexia Putellas, who is still recovering from muscular discomfort that has prevented her from training in recent days. The Catalan has rested so as not to force herself in the face of her World Cup debut.
This Saturday, the players and the coaching staff will travel to their headquarters in the New Zealand city of Palmerston North, their headquarters for a large part of the tournament, and on Friday, July 21, they will make their debut against Costa Rica.
