South Korea’s women’s team chases 10th consecutive archery gold medal

Archers Lim Si-hyeon, Nam Su-hyeon and Jeon Hun-young have the big task of leading their nation to a tenth consecutive gold medal in the women’s team event. Since their debut in Seoul 1988, South Korea has remained undefeated, taking home all nine gold medals to date.

Concerns about the team of three Olympic debutants gave way to renewed optimism after Lim’s victory in the women’s qualifying round.

The young competitor scored 694 points out of a possible 720 points, finishing in first place among the 64 archers. Nam, the youngest member of the team at 19, finished second with 688 points, while Jeon placed 13th with 664 points.

Their combined score of 2,046 points was an Olympic record and made South Korea the top seed for the team event, which begins with the round of 16 on the Esplanade des Invalides in the French capital.
