The National Assembly of South Korea, controlled by the opposition, has approved this Thursday a motion to dismiss Foreign Minister Park Jin, whom they accuse of being responsible for the “diplomatic disaster” harvested by the country’s president, Yoon Suk Yeol , during his last trip abroad.
The deputies of the Democratic Party, who have the majority of seats, consider that Park is behind the problems detected during the tour, for which the motion has been approved with 168 votes in favor, one abstention and the boycott of the ruling Party of Power. of the People (PPP), according to information from the Yonhap news agency.
Thus, they have blamed the minister for “blunders”, such as the fact that Yoon did not visit the burning chapel of the queen of England, Elizabeth II, or the lack of significant results after the summit with Japan, in addition to the controversy that arose as a result of the president’s statements during the UN General Assembly in New York.
During said trip, the president used an inappropriate tone to refer, supposedly, to the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the members of the United States Congress, although he has clarified that in reality he was talking about the South Korean National Assembly and the opposition internal.
It is expected, however, that Yoon will not accept the motion and that Park will remain in office, considering that he is “extremely prepared” to carry out his work.
