Minister of SMEs and Entrepreneurship OH Youngju organized a consultative meeting with universities and companies to discuss ways to connect SMEs with international students studying in South Korea.

The meeting aimed to hear the challenges faced by universities and SMEs in recruiting international students and discuss policy directions to support this matter.

During the presentation of Korea Small Business Institute (KOSI), participants reached a consensus on the importance of recruiting international students and shared the current situation. They had a productive conversation about how to promote the hiring of international students in small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

HAN Chang-Yong, General Director of the Center for Policy Analysis and Consulting at KOSI, said that “despite the efforts of SMEs to recruit domestic workers, there is a growing shortage of highly skilled labor and growing demand of professionals in various fields. He added: “The number of international students choosing to train in Korea is increasing, and there is growing demand for recruitment and employment opportunities among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and international students. However, there are some challenges associated with employment due to differences in work-related information between employers and job seekers.”

Minister OH Youngju stated: “At a time when domestic demand for foreign workers is increasing in all industries, attracting and recruiting excellent international talent in domestic SMEs is an important task.” “Based on the valuable inputs provided during this consultative meeting, we will soon discuss with relevant ministries and agencies to establish measures to facilitate the recruitment of international students with domestic SMEs.”
