South Korea says North Korea leaves routine contacts unanswered for sixth day in a row

South Korea has affirmed this Wednesday that North Korea has left its calls through the joint communication channel unanswered for the sixth consecutive day, a day after denouncing Pyongyang’s “unilateral and irresponsible” attitude and amid the rebound in the bilateral tensions.

The South Korean Ministry of Unification has pointed out that Pyongyang has been leaving calls unanswered since April 7 and has stressed that the situation is the same through the eastern and western military lines of communication, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported. .

The head of the portfolio, Kwon Young Se, affirmed on Tuesday that the North Korean authorities “have not given any explanation” and warned that Pyongyang’s position will lead the country “to isolation” and “put it in trouble.”

The South Korean authorities said on Monday that they were considering the possibility that Pyongyang had “unilaterally” suspended the communication channel, through which both countries maintained two daily contacts. North Korea restored the line in July 2021, about a year after cutting it for the launch of propaganda leaflets across the border, although it suspended it for two months in August 2022 in protest of military maneuvers between Washington and Seoul.
