Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has stated in an interview with Reuters The country’s authorities have rejected the idea of co-hosting the Summer Olympics with Pyongyang, leaving the South Korean capital to submit only its own bid for the 2036 sporting event.
Hoping to improve relations with North Korea, Seoul sent the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2021 a proposal to host the 2032 Olympics jointly with Pyongyang. The proposal was sent before Brisbane (Australia) was designated as the venue for that edition. “I think the 2032 strategy was doomed to fail because of unpredictable inter-Korean relations,” Oh said.
