South Korea and the United States announced joint military exercises on Saturday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of their alliance and the 75th anniversary of the creation of the South Korean Army, the country’s Defense Ministry reported.

These maneuvers, which will last from May 25 to June 15, will be the largest of their kind, and the use of advanced weapons systems such as F-35A fighters, AH-64 Apache helicopters, K2 tanks and rocket launchers are expected. multiple Chunmoo, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

Since 1977, more than 10 such maneuvers have been carried out, the last in 2017, which involved 48 South Korean and US units and more than 2,000 soldiers.

The announcement of the maneuvers came a few days after North Korea criticized the recent agreement between South Korea and the United States, whereby the latter would reinforce “the deployment of tactical nuclear forces on Korean soil.”
