MADRID Jan. 8 () –
The general secretary of the Workers’ Commissions, Unai Sordo, confirmed this Wednesday that he will present his re-election in office for the third and last time, as he conveyed in a message published on social networks.
“Today I have conveyed to the Confederal Council – the highest management body between CCOO congresses – the intention to present my candidacy for the General Secretariat in our next Congress, for the third and last time,” he wrote in X.
Born on October 2, 1972 in Barakaldo (Vizcaya), he was elected general secretary of CCOO at the end of 2017, replacing Ignacio Fernández Toxo after receiving the support of 88.8% of the delegates attending the 11th Congress. It was Toxo himself who proposed Sordo to succeed him, achieving this election the almost unanimous support of the Confederal Council of the union.
In October 2021, Sordo managed to revalidate his leadership in the 12th Congress with 93.09% of the support of union delegates, a higher percentage than in 2017.
In CCOO, the General Secretariat is limited to a maximum of three mandates (two ordinary and one extraordinary) of four years each.
