Sony’s first car will hit the market in 2026. Their argument for you to buy it: television

If we want autonomous cars, we need smart highways. The first one is already underway

Sony and Honda have given a new and important announcement about the joint venture that both companies recently signed: Sony will have electric cars in 2026. His landing on the market will come that year for North America and Japan. Later, it will be the turn of the European market.

The announcement is confirmation of how much the market can change in just a few years. The entry of technology is increasingly evident. In recent days, we have learned that BMW has teamed up with AirConsole to bring gaming to your tech-savvy BMW 7 Series, the Polestar 3 is an arsenal of tech implementations from NVIDIA and Google. Apple wants to be relevant through CarPlay and Xiaomi has already given the first information about its first electric and autonomous vehicle.

The industry seems to go through collaboration between traditional manufacturers and big tech. And those who do not want to share the cake are also making enormous efforts to be relevant in software, a stone on which the future of the automotive industry is to be built and which is already claiming its victims.

A near and uncertain future

Beyond the date, words from Sony and Honda They were concise, but they already suggest that their future vehicles intend to offer much more than the others, transforming their interiors into new experiential spaces.

“SHM (Sony Honda Mobility Inc.) aims to evolve the mobility space into entertainment and emotional space, seamlessly integrating the real and virtual worlds, and exploring new entertainment possibilities through digital innovations such as the metaverse”

These are the words that have been made public during the announcement. If we add to this that Sony ensures that their vehicles will have a degree of autonomy of level 3, we would expect that in their cars we can enjoy streaming, video games or even karaoke.

In fact, the transformation of the rooms of vehicles is something that is already underway. It has come from Asia and in the UK they are taking it very seriously. For example, in China it is not uncommon to use cars as karaoke bars, one of the reasons with which Volkswagen justified the hiring of local Asian engineers, ensuring that they better understand the idiosyncrasies of a country where the electric car is being a revolution.

It may seem far away, but the United Kingdom is already debating a regulation that allows streaming while the car moves on its own. At the moment, it is a possibility that would only be available for vehicles with level 3 autonomy, that is, those that can move completely by themselves and that do not need immediate human intervention, before they would have to notify the driver to do so. with the controls.

The regulations are expected to come into force in 2025, but there are already Mercedes vehicles that reach this level 3 of autonomy. Of course, with very specific general restrictions, such as do not exceed 60 km/hdrive through areas previously mapped by the manufacturer and where there is no possibility of a pedestrian crossing the sidewalk.

Among other substantial changes that are yet to come, Sony and Honda have already announced that the vehicles that come out under their seal can only be purchased and configured online, which is a new step forward in the extinction of dealers. Small and big changes that should be available in just over four years. Time will tell to what extent the promises are true or, simply, promises.
