Sony would be developing a PlayStation 5 with external disc reader

After almost two years since the launch of the last generation of Sony consoles, the company would be working on a new version of the PlayStation 5 that would allow users to have the same design as in the digital version of the console without having to give up physical disc support for your games.

As we read in ExtremeTechSony would be planning to launch this new version of the console in September 2023, so there’s still a full year left so we can see this combination of a seemingly digital console with an external disc player on the market.

This will allow managing the indecision of users who do not know whether to buy a console with or without a reader for different reasons., one of them being the price. Speaking of economics, this too would allow Sony to reduce costs in the manufacture of consolessince the number of different components that they would need would be reduced, thus accelerating the production of consoles.

It should be noted that the reader will use a dedicated USB-C port on the back of the console.so the existing port on the digital PlayStation 5s that have been sold so far may or may not work with this disc player, so for now the only advantage for users is that they could buy one of the new consoles without disc reader, and acquire the reader later when they think they need it.
