There are still a few years left for the console to hit the market playstation 6but Sony is already announcing its first moves against Microsoft in case the purchase of Activision. The goal is to prevent you from collaborating with the developer company.
Activision Blizzard is not going through its best moment after reported harassment cases. For this reason, Microsoft made the decision to make the purchase for more than 60 billion dollars; however, the acquisition process has been blocked due to the refusal of different countries.
The purchase has not yet been finalized and Sony has already moved its first chips. Jim Ryan, CEO of the company, declared before the Federal Trade Commission of the United States that in the past they had collaborated with Activison Blizzard to improve the functions of their consoles.
This helped the company improve the hardware and differentiate itself from its direct competitor Xbox. However, in the event that the transaction between Microsoft and Activison Blizzard is closed, these ties will be severed, and there will be no further collaboration.
Jim Ryan Talks About Collaboration With Activison Blizzard
“We simply could not take the risk that a company owned by a direct competitor would have access to that information,” Jim Ryan told the aforementioned entity after being asked if the relationship between Activision and Sony would continue.
PlayStation has two main concerns in this regard. The first has to do with the joint work they had done in past years, which will be completely stopped. The other conflict that they have revealed is the concern that Activison Blizzard will no longer develop triple A games for all consoles, but instead prioritize Xbox Series X.
Ryan commented that Activision Blizzard tends to “make great games on all platforms”, but if the purchase is finalized, they will always be threatened that the great IPs will not be available on PlayStation 4, PS5 and an eventual PS6.
Call of Duty is perhaps the franchise that Sony will fight the most for. It is one of the games that generates the most money in the year, launch after launch, but if it is decided to migrate permanently to Xbox it could be a serious blow to Sony’s income.
