sony has announced a unilateral price increase for its PlayStation 5 console. The Japanese company excuses itself in the rise in inflation that plagues much of the Globe, added to the fluctuation in the exchange rate of the most important currencies.
As usual, we are the consumers who will have to “pay the price”, and the PlayStation 5 will go up to 550 euros in its Blu-Ray version and up to 450 euros in the case of the more limited digital version. So, The PS5 will go up in Spain 50 euros.
This increase will affect all of Europe, in addition, other countries that will suffer from this decision by Sony will be their native country, Japan, United Kingdom, China, Australia, Mexico and Canada. Making the Sony console less competitive in these markets, since, at least for now, its main competitors, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S, have not announced a price increase.
The PlayStation 5 will not go up in price in the United States
However, it seems that Sony has not dared to raise the price of the PS5 in the United States, possibly due to the stiff competition they have there with Microsoft’s Xboxes.
In any case, after the lack of stock and its corresponding price premium in alternative markets that Sony’s console has been suffering in recent months, now it is Sony itself that is raising the price, despite having shown its intentions to increase the production considerably. It seems that when everything pointed to the fact that the stock of the console was going to normalize, the company did not want to miss the opportunity to earn more money.
