Sony raises the price of Horizon Zero Dawn after announcing the remaster

In recent years, the price of games and consoles has increased, but what has not happened until now is for a game to increase its price individually and after several years on the market. The person responsible for this novelty in the industry has been Sony, something that will not surprise its users if we take into account that it is a company that charges 9.99 euros to update its own games from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5.

The title that has increased in price is Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PS4. For about two years now, this game can be found on the PlayStation Store for 19.99 euros, the same price as the rest of the titles in the PlayStation Hits series, but suddenly it has gone to 39.99 euros. The reason is unknown, but coincidentally the movement occurred the same week that Sony announced Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which will go on sale on October 31 for PS5 and PC in exchange for 49.99 euros.

Everything seems to indicate that Sony does not want to forgive a single cent. Players with a copy of Horizon Zero Dawn for PS4 can upgrade to the remastered version for PS5 for €9.99. If the game had maintained the price of 19.99 euros, it would be possible to purchase the remastering for 29.99 euros, ten euros less than what Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition now costs. With this move, Sony will always pay 49.99 euros for the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster, either with the direct purchase or through the update.

The truth is that it is not the first time that Sony squeezes its players. For example, when Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered came out for PS5, PS4 users with a copy of the game were not allowed to update their version. At that time the only option to get the title was to buy Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (79.99 euros) or buy Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PS4, access the PS5 version for free and pay 20 dollars to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition. A year later Sony ended free upgrades from PS4 to PS5 and the last game to receive this treatment was Horizon Forbidden West. Since then you always have to pay 9.99 euros.

You can argue that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered includes improvements that justify charging for the update, but over the past few years we’ve seen hundreds of games from every publisher in the industry get updated for free. What is more difficult to defend is raising the price of a game that has been on sale for two years and preventing players from saving ten euros. There will always be the option of the physical format, since Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PS4 still costs 19.99 euros in stores.
