Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has updated the sales figure for its next-generation console PlayStation 5 (PS5) and has indicated that it has managed to sell a total of 32.1 million units since its launch.
The latest data provided by the manufacturer, in November 2022, corresponds to its second quarter of (Q2 2022) of its current fiscal year, when it indicated that it had managed to sell 3.3 million units of PS5, the same amount registered in the same prior fiscal year period (FY21).
Now the tech company has made known the Rfinancial results of its third quarter (Q3 2022), ended December 31, and has indicated that a total of 7.1 million units of PS5 were purchased in this, a higher figure than that registered in the same period of time in 2021.
So, Sony pointed out that the sales registered in Q3 2021 were 3.9 million consoles sold, so would have registered an increase in sales 82 percent in the last quarter analyzed.
Despite these good results, if this situation continues, Sony would not be able to fulfill its plans at the end of the fiscal year of 2022, since it initially aimed to sell 18 million PS5s and, for the moment, it has been 12.8 million units.
Taking into account the journey of this ‘hardware’ focused on ‘gaming’, it has been determined that PS5 has sold a total of 32.1 million consoles around the world since its launch in November 2020.
On the other hand, the document shared by the company shows that the number of active subscribers to its PlayStation Plus services has not experienced such a notable change, although it has decreased slightly, since in this third quarter of its current fiscal year (FY22) 46.4 million subscribers are reflectedcompared to 48 million in the third quarter of 2021. Monthly active users now amount to 112 million people.
Sony has also managed to pick up its game sales. The section dedicated to this area includes that in the last quarter 86.5 million video games for their available platforms (in addition to PS5, PlayStation4), compared to 62.5 million titles downloaded in the previous quarter.
Of all of them, 62 percent were downloads in digital format and 20.8 million titles classified as ‘first-party’, that is, developed by the company’s own studios.
