Sony has shared the strategy that it will follow with the video games developed by PlayStation studios, which will be different depending on the type, since the service games will be launched simultaneously on both PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PC, while the narrative titles for single player will arrive on computers some time after being released on the console.
For years now, PlayStation video games have not been exclusive to consoles, but, in some cases, have also been extended to platforms such as PCs, mobile phones and, more recently, to their virtual reality glasses.
The head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, spoke about this expansion in 2022, commenting that the console would continue to be “the best place to play” given ““the symbiotic relationship” that this division has with Sony’s ‘hardware’.
With this, Hulst announced that “in the future” there would be “at least a year” between the launch of a game on the PS console and on PC, with the exception of games as a service. “For this type of game we could do simultaneous launches between PC and PS,” he commented.
Hulst, who was recently named co-CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment and who will soon take over the direction of the division alongside Hideaki Nishino, has now explained what the business strategy will be. in relation to the timing of new title releases.
The manager has made “an approximation” of his future plans with video games as a service and narrative video games, as shared by the senior editor of The Verge, who attended the presentation of results. of the signaturein its X profile. Regarding the former, Hulst has commented that they will arrive simultaneously on both the console and the PC, what is known as a day 1 launch.
On the other hand, for narrative single-player titles, your approach will be “more strategic” and they will come to PC after being released on PlayStation. Thanks to this, they hope to find “new audiences that will potentially be very interested” in playing titles on the console.
