The first anniversary of the renewed PlayStation Plus is celebrated with a wave of games for the service’s catalog and the announcement of a new feature: cloud streaming for PlayStation 5 games, a function that is already in the testing phase and that it will be part of the PS Plus Premium subscription. On the other hand, and to celebrate the anniversary of the service, from June 20 to 30 there will be activities in which both PlayStation Plus members and those who are not subscribed can participate.

“[…] We have great news for PlayStation Plus Premium subscription players. Right now we are testing the streaming in the cloud for supported PS5 games (this includes PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus game catalog and playtests, as well as any digital PS5 games you already own),” says Nick Maguire, Global Head of from PlayStation Plus. “At the time of its launch, the option of streaming Cloud Service for Compatible PS5 Games will be available to use directly from your PS5 console.”

“That means, as a player with a Premium subscription, it will be easier to play your favorite games directly from your PS5 without having to download them first,” adds Maguire. Over time, the catalog of PS5 games with support for cloud streaming will grow. Currently, PS5 titles can be streamed to PC and iOS and Android devices, but the console acts as host to download and do streaming.

Adding this feature to PlayStation Plus Premium makes sense when you consider that despite being the most expensive option, its €16.99 per month compares to €8.99 for PS Plus Essential and €13.99 for PS Plus Extra. , is a very popular subscription. The renewed PS Plus has 47.4 million subscribers and 17% of the total, that is, 8 million, are subscribed to the Premium option. Extra members account for 13% of subscriptions (6.1 million) and the rest settle for the Essential subscription.

The expansion of games in the cloud that Sony proposes today joins its commitment to expand the use of the Remote Play function. In this sense, a month ago the Japanese company announced that it was working on Project Q, a device to play PS5 titles with Remote Play and via Wi-Fi. Project Q will equip an LCD screen to run games at up to 1080p and 60 FPS, and its controls have the features of the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback and dynamic adaptive triggers. The launch of the device is scheduled for the end of the year for a price that has not yet been revealed.
