The original Sonic Origins includes the 2D Sonic games originally released for the Mega Drive: Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, remastered. For its part, Sonic Origins Plus, the collection that is available today, adds 12 Sonic titles for Game Gear, Knuckles playable on Sonic CD and, for the first time, Amy Rose as a playable character in Sonic The Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. In addition, it introduces the additional content available: Extreme missions, Mirror mode, new character animations and additional backgrounds and music.
The physical edition of Sonic Origins Plus ships for 39.99 euros and includes a 20-page art book and a reversible cover that pays homage to the classic Sonic era of the 1990s. The digital edition is the same price, but by its nature it dispenses with physical elements. On the other hand, players who already have a copy of Sonic Origins can get the Plus expansion pack in exchange for 10.99 euros. In this way they will transform their game into Sonic Origins Plus with all the new content.
Sonic Origins Plus brings together 16 Sonic titles that can be played in Classic mode to do it in its original form, or with Anniversary mode to do it with full screen and an infinite number of lives.
Those who want a classic Sonic but with a completely renewed look and new abilities, visual effects, gameplay and zones, will have to wait until Sonic Superstars is released in October. This title, which promises to keep Sonic’s movements, physics and controls, will support local cooperative play for four players and will have a new enemy created by Naoto Ohshima, Sonic’s designer, who will keep company with the everlasting Dr. Eggman. Interestingly, in October Mario will also return to 2D side-scrolling with the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
