"Sometimes no one wants war but everyone organizes it. Escalation must be avoided"

The high representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrellwarned this Sunday, following Iran's night attack on Israel, that “sometimes it happens that no one wants war but everyone organizes it,” and has called to stop the escalation of violence.

The vice president of the European Commission has also indicated, in an interview with TVE, that it is necessary avoid at all costs a “high intensity regional war” that completely destabilizes the region”, since ““can prevent us from being able to stop military activities in Gaza,” and for Borrell this would be the worst possible scenario “because it would harm the Palestinians.”

In this sense, it has been advanced that the G7 is working on a joint statement condemning the suicide drone and missile attack carried out by Iran on Saturday night. “We knew that Iran was going to respond, we were waiting for it, the intelligence services knew it since last night,” said the high representative. “This wants that Iran wanted to evaluate the damage it would do with its attack, although it has only obtained military objectives and fortunately has not achieved civilian objectives,” according to Borrell.

Furthermore, he stressed that the EU has issued a statement from the 27 member states “unanimously asking to avoid escalation, the 'I give, you give'.” Faced with the possibility of stopping the rise in tension, Borrell has declared that “it is not so easy to talk to Iran” although just a few hours ago the Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed that for them “the answer is given and finished, unless let them attack them again.”

On the other hand, Borrell has announced on his X account that has called for the formation of Foreign Affairs of the Council of the EU next Tuesday, so that the ministers of the member countries analyze the increase in tension in the Middle East.
