Jan. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Somali Army has announced the death of more than 50 suspected members of Al Shabaab in the town of Harardhere, located in the state of Galmudug, amid the upsurge in military offensives against the terrorist group, which maintains ties to Al Qaeda.
Mohamed Tahlil Bihi, commander of the Somali Army, has indicated that the offensive has had the support of international partners and has stressed that the objective is to “weaken terrorists fleeing the region”. Mogadishu claimed Tuesday to have killed another 40 suspects in this area.
Somalia has increased offensives against Al Shabaab in recent months with the support of clans and local militias as part of a series of decisions taken by the president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who promised upon taking office to put the fight against terrorism at the center of his efforts to stabilize the African country.
