The Somali authorities have announced the death of more than 200 Al Shabaab militiamen in a series of operations carried out by the Army and allied local militias in Middle Shabelle (center), clashes with the terrorist group that have also resulted in the death of five soldiers.
Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Yusuf Sheikh Adala, has specified that the fighting has taken place in the Iji area, located about 20 kilometers from the city of Mahaday, before adding that among the dead terrorists there are four commanders, such and as the Somali news agency SONNA has collected.
Likewise, he stressed that the security forces have seized 300 weapons, as well as medicines and food, while stressing that operations against Al Shabaab continue in the region and other parts of the country, in the midst of an offensive backed by local militias. .
The operation took place a day after Somalia claimed to have killed more than 30 Al Shabaab members in operations in the Mudug region (south).
Somalia has increased offensives against Al Shabaab in recent months with the support of clans and local militias as part of a series of decisions taken by the president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who promised upon taking office to put the fight against terrorism at the center of his efforts to stabilize the African country.
