During the thirty-sixth session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which took place in Mexico City from May 23 to 27, 2016, the member states approved the resolution 700(XXXVI)resolution of Mexico by which the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development was created as a regional mechanism for follow-up and review of the implementation and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Developmentthe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), their goals, their means of implementation and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development. Subsequently, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations endorsed the creation of the Forum through the approval of its resolution 2016/12.
