Six workers of Philippine congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. have been arrested after several searches carried out on Teves’ own properties related to the assassination of the governor of Negros Oriental province, Roel Degamo.
“Six people are in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group” (CIDG, for its acronym in English), explained a spokeswoman for the Philippine Police, Colonel Jean Fajardo, in statements to the press collected by the ABS television network. -CBN.
A CIDG official, Thomas Valmonte, explained that among the detainees there is a security guard. The rest would be close collaborators of Teves, who is in the United States.
On Saturday it emerged that one of the four arrested for the murder of Degamo had assured in the interrogations that he was hired by Teves. Teves is the brother of Pryde Henry Teves, who was displaced from the position of governor of Negros Oriental by Degamo.
In the searches on Friday in Teves properties, ten short arms, six rifles, 19 chargers, hundreds of cartridges, a telescopic sight, three hand grenades and several pistol holsters were found and seized.
Meanwhile, the president of the Philippine Parliament, Martin Romualdez, has called on Teves to return to the country since his authorization to travel to the United States was for the period between February 28 and March 9. For this reason, he asks her to “return to the country as soon as possible.”
Degamo was meeting with some of his voters at a private estate in the town of Pamplona on March 4 when a group of armed men arrived at the scene in two trucks and opened fire on him, several bodyguards and the rest of the gathering.
