Pamela Alarcón, Journalist.- For the second consecutive year, Andrés Bello University obtained important results in the Research.com international ranking, one of the world’s leading research websites. The ranking highlights the best scientists and the best universities worldwide, in different areas of knowledge.

In this second version, six academic researchers from UNAB were included in the international ranking of Research.com, standing out in the disciplines of Molecular Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Animal and Veterinary Science. Likewise, in the breakdown by institutions, the University was positioned in prominent places at the national level in these same areas.

“As UNAB, we promote and recognize the leadership in research of our academics in various disciplines, and we are glad that this international ranking makes it visible,” said the Vice Chancellor for Research and Doctorate at Andrés Bello University, Carolina Torrealbaadding:

Ours is a great research community, even more so considering the youth of our institution; In just a few years, UNAB has managed to build a powerful research nucleus, which contributes to the advancement of the generation of global knowledge and is placed at the service of society.

This second version of the Research.com ranking was developed analyzing the data of more than 166,000 scientists from around the world. The evaluation criteria included the number of citations and publications collected up to December 2022, as well as the D index, which is an adaptation of the Hirsch index, known as the H index. The research platform defines the D index as the index H of the discipline, that is, it considers only the publications and citations belonging to the particular discipline that is being measured.

Below are the results obtained by UNAB academic researchers.

Contributing science to the world

research.comAmong the researchers from the Andrés Bello University that make up the Research.com ranking, the Dr. Martín Montecino, director of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) of UNAB. Dr. Montecino positioned himself as the only national scientist included in the Molecular Biology area of the ranking. The biochemist and PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Massachusetts accumulates a total of 207 publications, 9,997 citations and a D index of 56.

“It is a great satisfaction that the scientific work developed throughout my career is recognized and valued by colleagues around the world, who consider and cite our contributions in the area,” said Dr. Montecino, adding that it is also where he focuses much of his teaching and training function at UNAB.
