March 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli police have detained this Wednesday six new suspects of having participated in the riots in the city of Huwara, in the West Bank, after several members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were attacked by a group of settlers when they were trying to stop them from throwing stones at vehicles belonging to Palestinian citizens.
According to a police spokesman, among the detainees there are two minors. They will be investigated for “participating in the riots, setting fire to vehicles and buildings, assaulting Palestinians and causing damage to private property in Huwara,” according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’, which has confirmed the release of eight of those arrested on the day of the events.
The suspects have been arrested in the early hours of Sunday and are being interrogated, they are expected to go to the court in Jerusalem to determine whether to keep them in provisional detention until the end of the investigation.
The military had been deployed in the area before the attacks perpetrated by settlers near the town of Al Mughayyir, some 20 kilometers from Ramallah, after receiving several calls for throwing stones.
THIS WEDNESDAY THERE WILL BE MORE PROTESTS AGAINST THE JUDICIAL REFORM
In addition to the conflicts in the West Bank in recent days, the country is facing on Wednesday what activists have called ‘the day of interruption’, a day of strikes called against the judicial reform of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Partial strikes are expected in some workplaces, cuts on some highways and demonstrations in the main cities, in numbers that, according to the organizers, will reach tens of thousands of attendees.
