They called themselves the “goon squad.” There were six. Six sheriff's deputies from Rankin County, near Jackson, the capital of Mississippi (USA), a state with a long history of racism.
In January 2023, they entered a home without a warrant after receiving a call that two black men were in the company of a white woman. The two African Americans were quickly subjected to racist insults, handcuffed, stripped naked and sprayed with various liquids in the face before being forced to shower together to remove the marks.
Gun in mouth and rape
Police also repeatedly used stun guns to electrocute their victims. A service weapon was used on two occasions, once in the mouth of one of the victims, who escaped from it with a broken jaw and lacerated tongue. They were even sexually assaulted with a sex toy. Or simply raped without accessories by the police officer, who was sentenced to forty years in prison. Three other sentences are around 20 years, and two more will be announced this Thursday.
All six pleaded guilty several weeks ago, no doubt hoping to reduce their sentences, which were announced in a heavily guarded courtroom given the seriousness of the crimes. The police officers ended up leaving their victims in a pool of blood as they conspired to cover up their blunder and fabricate false evidence to incriminate their victims.
