Six killed by a gas explosion that has sunk a three-story building in Pakistan

July 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least six people have died and ten more have been injured by the collapse of a three-story building in Jhelum, in the Pakistani province of Punjab, in an incident apparently caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder.

Police Deputy Commissioner Samiulá Faruq has given the number of victims and explained that the wounded are already hospitalized for treatment, reports Pakistani television Geo TV.

“The rescue operation continues with various teams present. There is information about the presence of four or five people who could still be under the rubble,” he said. The operation will continue until the last trapped person can be rescued and the place is cleared, she stressed.

The explosion occurred around 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The rescue teams “responded immediately and began operations,” another official responsible, Hasan Tariq, previously explained.

On Saturday, seven people were killed and 14 others injured by a vehicle gas tank explosion in Bhalwal, Sargodha, also in Punjab province. And last month another five people –including three minors– died in gas cylinder explosions in various parts of the country.
