September 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least six people have died when a civilian Mi-8 helicopter carrying 14 people crashed in the North Waziristan district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The helicopter, belonging to the company Mari Petroleum Limited, crashed shortly after takeoff for “technical reasons” near an oil well, according to a company spokesperson quoted by Geo TV. The spokesperson stressed that there are no signs of an attack.
The eight injured have been transferred to a nearby hospital after a rescue operation launched by the Pakistani Armed Forces and other organizations.
Geo TV has reported, citing its own sources, that among the injured there are three Russian pilots and that the destination hospital for the injured was the Thal Combined Military Hospital. There is also speculation that the tail of the helicopter hit the ground when they were attempting an emergency landing.
