() — Akwesasne Mohawk Police investigate the discovery Thursday afternoon of six bodies during a Canadian Coast Guard aerial search for a missing person in Akwesasne, Quebec, the territory of the Mohawk Nation that straddles the border with United States along the banks of the St. Lawrence River, according to a release of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service.
Police said the first body was located in a marshy area in Tsi Snaihne (Snye) Akwesasne, Quebec, around 5:00 p.m. local time and their marine unit continued to search the area with the help of the Candian Coast Guard. and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.
Police are now awaiting the results of post-mortem and toxicological tests to determine the causes of death of the six people and are trying to identify the bodies and “ascertain their status in Canada,” according to the statement.
According to police, “there is no threat to the public at this time” and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
