Singapore and Indonesia reaffirm their close and long-standing defense relations

Singapore’s Defense Minister, Dr. Ng Eng Hen, has received the Indonesian defense minister, Prabowo Subianto, on March 16. During their meeting, Dr. Ng and Mr. Prabowo exchanged views on geopolitical developments and discussed ways Singapore and Indonesia could work together for peace and security in the region.

Minister Prabowo traveled to Singapore to attend the 2023 Singapore-Indonesia Leaders Retreat held on March 16, 2023, during which Dr. Ng and Mr. Prabowo signed a Joint Update on Defense Cooperation highlighting key bilateral interactions in defense in the last year and affirms the commitment of both countries to advance cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

Singapore and Indonesia have long had close defense ties. Both institutions have enjoyed decades of close friendship and continue to deepen their cooperation to address common regional security challenges.

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) interact regularly through military exercises, high-level visits, professional exchanges and cross-course attendance across the three Services and at all levels.
