The ‘smartphone’ market expects a growing demand for foldable phones this year, which will reach 18.5 million units shipped in 2023, and which will be accompanied by an increase in the value of its essential component, the hinge.
Global shipments of foldable ‘smartphones’ amounted to 12.8 million units in 2022, year in which models such as Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, Huawei P50 Pocket or a new Motorola Razr, among other proposals, hit the market.
Samsung accounts for 82 percent of a market that for this year expects to increase shipments to around 18.5 million units, according to forecasts from TrendForce.
This is a brand that has opted for the U-shaped hinge design, as opposed to the more complex drop type, which is also more expensive. And precisely, together with the growth in the number of shipments, an increase in the value of this component is expected (14.6%) up to 500 million dollars by 2023 (about 462 million euros).
