( Spanish) – The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, led this Wednesday the first morning conference of her Government, which she named “The morning of the people”, which presents some changes in form compared to the one held until Monday by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“We are now going to develop the mornings in a special way. Information will come as the president always did,” Sheinbaum said. from the National Palace, in Mexico City.
The first conference was dedicated to the massacre in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, in the Tlatelolco neighborhood, in the Mexican capital, which occurred on October 2, 1968 and was considered the worst student massacre in the history of the country, committed by the federal government.
The former head of the capital government explained that in addition to information about the actions of her government and answering questions from journalists and communicators, as López Obrador did, there will be a different section per day.
On Mondays the section will be “healthy living” to talk about the importance of nutrition; Tuesdays will be dedicated to “Mexican humanism and historical memory”; On Wednesdays it will be a “lie detector” to identify fake news on social networks and the media and will have citizen participation.
On Thursdays the section “Women in History” will be presented, in which the participation of women will be recognized and on Fridays “suave patria” will take place to highlight citizenship in events that give pride to Mexicans.
With López Obrador, there were sections with similar topics such as “the pulse of health” and “who’s who in lies,” about news classified as false by the Government. In addition, the now former president used to talk about historical topics.
Political analyst and academic Eduardo Higuera told that, judging by the first morning, there will not be many changes in the structure or form, “they will only be cosmetic variations.”
“Even Sheinbaum wrote in X “That it was a circular dialogue of the people and for the people, which are exact phrases from López Obrador and all of this tells us that there will not be much change and that the conference will continue to be used as an instrument of propaganda,” said Higuera.
The political communication consultant also expressed his concern about the fact that the topics announced by Sheinbaum do not include aspects such as the economic situation in Mexico or the results in terms of public security, which are of great relevance for society.
“I think the word that describes Sheinbaum’s new morning routines is ‘deepening.’ An indoctrination understood as the management of the narrative of the only truth, the only history and the only way of seeing Mexico,” considered the consultant.
This Wednesday’s press conference lasted one hour and 30 minutes, which was less time than López Obrador dedicated during his six-year term with morning sessions of between two and three hours speaking in front of the media, answering questions or disqualifying his opponents.
Experts consulted by previously pointed out that the style of both before the press is very different. AMLO has a more relaxed personality and is given to long and ambiguous speeches, while Sheinbaum “is more technical and academic, goes bluntly and with hard data,” said David Mendoza Santillán, doctor in Political Science.
Sheinbaum has a direct and cautious style with the press: when journalists insist on certain points, she usually does not give more information and is cautious.
Higuera considered that precisely because of this difference in personalities, the new morning sessions will be more boring. “They are not going to have the spark, the self-confidence that former President López Obrador had.”
