MADRID Jan. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Several pro-Palestinian protesters interrupted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken this Tuesday during a speech at the headquarters of the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington on a possible ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“He will always be known as ‘secretary of genocide’. He has the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent people on his hands,” stressed a first protester, who was evicted from the room seconds later by security personnel.
Blinken, who defended President Joe Biden’s efforts to free the hostages held by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) during his speech, was interrupted a second time by another protester who called him a “monster.”
“Across the Arab and Muslim world, a large majority believes that October 7 did not happen or if it did that it was a legitimate attack against the Israeli Army. In Israel, there is almost no information about the conditions in Gaza and what “People suffer every day,” Blinken later said during his speech, adding that “dehumanization is one of the greatest tragedies of the conflict.”
The US Secretary of State has been rebuked a third time by another protester who has stated that what is happening in the Palestinian enclave “is not a conflict” or a “war” and has criticized him for sending weapons to Israel.
Blinken shortly afterwards described the current proposal for a permanent cessation of hostilities in Gaza. “I believe we will achieve a ceasefire. And whether we achieve it in the remaining days of our administration or after January 20, the agreement will closely follow the terms that President Biden presented in May of last year,” he said. .
His words come in the midst of indirect negotiations between the parties in Doha for an agreement that will allow the release of those kidnapped during the attacks of October 7, 2023 and the cessation of hostilities in the Palestinian enclave, where more than 46,600 people have already died. and more than 110,000 have been injured.
