(CNN) — Several people were injured during a terror attack in the central West African Mali city of Mopti on Saturday morning, the country’s state radio ORTM said.
A group of people launched their attack on the city’s airport but were repelled by the Malian armed forces, who used drones to destroy three vehicles loaded with explosives, ORTM said.
The force of the huge explosion caused some nearby houses to collapse and as they fled, the attackers abandoned a van, according to the country’s national broadcaster.
The governor of the Mopti region, Colonel Major Abass Dembélé, visited a local hospital to ask about the condition of those injured during the attack and then went to the site of the explosion to inspect the damage, ORTM said.
