A man has attacked several people and injured two in the city of Mannheimin the southwest of Germany, as reported by the authorities. The police shot the attacker, who was injured and was detained.
It happened in the city’s central square during a demonstration by the Pax Europa movement, an association known for its right-wing populist and anti-Islamist positions.
The protest was being recorded live and the moment of the attack was captured. A man with a beard has started pounce on several attendees of the political event to stab them. As can be seen in the images, the attacker manages to escape from the people who try to stop him, even from the police, who only manage to arrest him after a shot.

The conservative politician and anti-Islam activist Michael Stürzenberger was stabbed during a public meeting in Mannheim.
A police officer was also stabbed in the neck.

In total, three people have been injured: the attacker himself, the anti-Islamist activist and organizer of the demonstration. Michael Stuerzenberger and a police officer, who is in “serious” condition. As can be seen in the images, the agent received a stab wound in the neck.
The activist Stuerzenberger, known for his anti-Muslim political stances, was scheduled to give a speech. The 59-year-old, leader of the Pax Europa movement, has been a member of several far-right organizations.
Years ago, Stuerzenberger led a citizen initiative against the construction of a mosque in Munich. He also regularly organizes anti-Islamist marches.
At the Pax Europa booth there was a flag from Germany and another from Israel, accompanied by the message “stop political Islam,” according to Bild. Local media have reported that the attack appears to have been planned specifically to attack Stuerzenberger.
The attack occurred after 11:30 a.m. and the police have assured that there is no longer any danger to the public. Mannheim is a city near Frankfurt with about 300,000 inhabitants.
