The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) has denounced that seven blue helmets have been injured by the explosion this Saturday of a device in the path of their convoy in the Central region of the African country, although their lives are not in danger, in amid the increasing hostility of the population to demand their departure from the country.
“Today, May 6, an explosion against a MINUSMA convoy in the north of the city of Douentza has injured seven peacekeepers who are receiving adequate medical attention,” the mission reported on its account. Twitter.
MINUSMA estimates that, with this Saturday, there are already six explosive attacks against peacekeepers in Mali only in the Center region so far this year.
“We are not a target,” stresses the UN mission.
Tensions have risen in recent months between the military junta established after the coups of August 2020 and May 2021 and the Permanent Strategic Framework (CSP, according to its French acronym) — which includes former Tuareg rebels and members of pro-government militias– amid increased insecurity due to attacks by jihadist groups.
