Seriously injured an Israeli soldier after being run over at a checkpoint in the West Bank

An Israeli soldier was seriously injured this Wednesday morning in an alleged deliberate attack on a police checkpoint in the city of Modin, in the West Bank.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have indicated that the attacker, a Palestinian citizen, has died after being shot by the soldier, who remained on the ground after being hit by the vehicle, according to information from the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

Palestinian media have identified the man as Habas Rayan, 54, from Bayt Duqu. The soldier, for his part, has been transferred to the Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem, where he is in serious but stable condition.

The incident takes place a day after the elections held in Israel, which have led the authorities to close border crossings for Palestinian citizens in the West Bank.
