Serbia declares a state of emergency in dozens of municipalities due to torrential rains

June 16 () –

The Serbian authorities have declared a state of emergency this Friday in 42 municipalities of the country due to the torrential rains registered during the last hours, which have caused damage in various parts of the country.

The Serbian government has issued a special alert ahead of the weather forecast for the weekend, when more rain is expected, while emergency services workers continue to evacuate dozens of people in the most affected areas.

Thus, they have warned that the city of Novi Pazar has been hit by the storm, which has caused the flooding of the Trnavica and Josanica rivers, while a bridge and a road have been completely destroyed in the vicinity, according to information from the RTS television network.

The Red Cross has proceeded to send some six tons of humanitarian aid to the flooded areas to meet the main needs of the population, such as food, hygiene and disinfection products, rubber boots and drinking water.
