If a year ago we knew about the Seagate Exos X24 hard drives with a capacity of 24 TB, now the company has officially announced its new 32 TB Exos M model along with the 30 TB variant. Therefore, these are some of the highest capacity hard drives on the market that also introduce new technology for the first time in this class of units.
To achieve that data density use HARM technology (heat assisted magnetic recording) together with SMR (shingled magnetic recording) technology and becomes the first in the world with 3 TB per plate, all on one disk hard with a standard size of 3.5 inches.
It is also the first high-capacity hard drive to use this HARM technology.
It is still early to know about their price, since they are not yet for sale. Of course, the company ensures compatibility with existing systems without the need to change components or controllers, which will facilitate their implementation in large data centers, the environment for which they are intended.
It may not take us too long to see them on sale, although their distribution will be far from domestic sales channels.
