The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have warned that Turkey “will pay dearly” for the uptick in its attacks against the Syrian Kurdish militia People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the north of the Arab country, after Ankara reported closely on Thursday. of 60 presumed members of the group “neutralized” in two days.
The FDS, whose main member is the YPG, have pointed out in a statement published on their website at “an alarming escalation” of the “brutal aggression by the Turkish occupation” against areas of northeastern Syria, with its epicenters in Al Shahba, Manbij, Ain Isa and Yazira.
“Shockingly, the occupation has failed to single out innocent civilians, including women and children, resulting in the tragic deaths of three people, while four others, including two children, have been injured as a result of these direct attacks and brutal,” they said.
Thus, they have denounced that “this aggression has been meticulously planned for a long time, waiting for the appropriate circumstances, especially those related to the permission of relevant parties and international organizations in the face of the undeniable and growing crimes committed by the occupation and its mercenaries on Syrian territory”.
“These crimes have specifically targeted our people in north-eastern Syria. Furthermore, the relentless support and backing of uncontrolled terrorist organizations, including Islamic State cells and other criminal groups in the occupied territories, increases the gravity of the situation. “, have stressed the SDS.
In this sense, they have emphasized that “this aggression cannot be seen in isolation from the ulterior motives of the occupation when diverting attention from its colonial acts on Syrian territory and from its impact on the future and the unity of Syria”.
The SDF has therefore linked the attacks by Turkey to “an attempt to weaken the national forces opposed to its colonial plans”, for which they have argued that “all Syrian parties must recognize that weakening the SDF only paves the way for way for further Turkish incursions into Syrian territory and further interference in sovereign decision-making, now and in the future.”
Lastly, he applauded the work of his forces and warned that “the occupation’s insistence on its acts of aggression and criminality will not go unpunished.” “The SDF are determined to safeguard the region and all of its members, working tirelessly to ensure a safe and stable future,” they added.
Turkey has carried out numerous ground operations and bombardments in recent years against the YPG — SDF allies of the US-led coalition against Islamic State — for its ties to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party ( PKK).
